Happy Birthday To Me

Today's the day. Celebrated with the ladies last night, so it's one of those days where you just kind of want to do nothing (and the last thing you want is a glass of red wine ;-) ).

Because my birthday is on a Saturday, it becomes a 3-day weekend birthday bonanza extravaganza, I took Friday off from work and a friend and I set off for the Quilters Unlimited show in Chantilly, VA.

Quilters Unlimited is a Northern Virginia guild which consolidates 11 chapters and just over 1000 members. While each chapter functions separately, they all come together each year to throw one major guild show...700 quilts and 79 vendors. Here's some of my favorite quilts displayed at the show:

It's no secret, I love me some good applique. This particular style would be well-suited to my upcoming indigo applique project.

Okay....red and white...redwork....Christmas....what's not to love about this one?

Red and white....Dresden plates...detailed embroidery....ditto!

Looks like Karen Kay Buckley did lots of workshops in our area. :)

I like this for it's pure wonkiness. No horizontal sashing, and the vertical is all askew.

I will always be a sucker for a Dear Jane.

Did I mention that there were 79 vendors? You didn't expect me to come home empty handed now, did you? A little indigo, a little Australian, some bright hand dyed felted wool for a pattern I picked up this Spring, a couple of patterns and some FQs to use with them.  It's going to be a busy summer in the studio.

Check back tomorrow to see what I'm working on. It's guaranteed to make your head spin.

For now, I'm out of here to continue the birthday celebration. I'm thinking late lunch out at Bryan Voltaggio's
Family Meal. I think that sounds like a plan.....
